Frequently Asked Questions for the start of the 2020-2021 School Year

When does school start?
The 2020-2021 school year begins virtually for all students on Monday, August 10th at 7:20AM.

When does my child begin classes on campus?
Students who have chosen face to face will begin their on campus classes on Friday, August 21st at 7:20AM. Face to face students are still required to attend class virtually starting Monday, August 10th at 7:20AM.

Do LaunchED students need to wear their uniforms?
No, students who will be taking classes virtually will not be required to wear their school uniforms.

How can I change my child’s instructional model?
To do this, please contact the school at 407-992-0917.

Are students required to wear a mask?
Yes. All students and visitors will be required to wear a face mask when on campus. We also encourage students to bring a spare face mask and hand sanitizer if possible.

Can I send my child to school if they are sick?
Please do not send a student to school if they are feeling unwell or experiencing any symptoms related to COVID-19.

How will Acceleration East High School follow CDC guidelines during class changes, lunch, P.E., etc?
To conform to CDC guidelines, we will be enforcing social distancing within the hallways and common areas during lunch, P.E., and classroom changes.

How does OCVS differ from LaunchED?
Orange County Virtual School (OCVS) is a separate entity from Acceleration East High School. To enroll your child in OCVS you will need to withdraw them from AEHS. In LaunchED, students will be able to communicate with their normal AEHS teachers.

What is the default option if I did not choose an instructional model?
Students who have not chosen an instructional model will automatically be placed in LaunchED.

How do I access the class livestream?
Livestreams can be done through a variety of programs, we ask that you reach out to your teachers and ask how they will be conducting their livestream.

My student is in tech, how will this affect his tech classes?
If a student is currently enrolled in technical classes, their schedule will reflect the instructional model which was chosen for their regular classes. Should a student choose LaunchED, their tech classes will take place virtually as well. If you have any questions regarding tech, please contact our guidance counselor, Ms. Roca (407-992-0917 x6322224).

What if I do not have a laptop?
Should a student not currently have an OCPS laptop, they can still access canvas via their personal computer, tablet, or smartphone.

My laptop is not functioning properly, how can I fix it?
All students must submit a tech request to receive IT assistance for their devices. Students can go to studenttechrequest.ocps.net to submit a request.

My child took a bus last year, do I still need to request a bus?
No, if a student has an existing route from the previous school year, you do not have to request transportation. New students who have chosen face to face will need to request a bus for transportation. This can be done by contacting our registrar, Mrs. Carballea at 407-992-0917 x6322255.

How do I know which instruction model my child is enrolled in?
To view or change your child’s instructional model, please contact the school.

Will there be dividers between students in the classroom?
We are currently researching this option. For now, students will be placed six-feet apart in the classroom.

How do I access LaunchED?
LaunchED can be accessed via canvas.

My child is enrolled in face to face learning, what supplies does my child need to bring?
Currently, we do not require any classroom materials aside from the student’s OCPS laptop.

What are the school’s office hours?
Our office hours are Monday-Friday from 7:00AM to 3:30PM.
